Jordan’s customs clearance and freight forwarding companies processed 952,000 customs declarations in 2024, up from 896,000 in 2023. These transactions covered exports, imports, transit, and re-exports.

Surge in electric vehicle clearance

The President of the Association of the Owners of Cargo Shipment and Clearance Companies, Deif Allah Abu Aqoula, stated in remarks reported by Petra News Agency that 247,000 vehicles were cleared for the local market and export in 2024.

This included gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles. Notably, electric vehicles accounted for the largest share of clearances, reaching 90,967 vehicles, compared to 38,277 in 2023.

This sharp increase reflects a growing shift toward environmentally friendly vehicles.

Growing trade activity in Aqaba

The Aqaba Port received 426,000 incoming containers in 2024, compared to 445,000 in 2023. Meanwhile, 109,000 containers were exported, slightly down from 115,000 in the previous year.

Despite the slight decline in container numbers, the port witnessed a sharp rise in vessel arrivals, with 454 ships docking in 2024, compared to 340 in 2023. The increase was attributed to shipping companies using smaller vessels due to disruptions in the Red Sea region.

Record truck transit across Jordanian borders

Abu Aqoula highlighted unprecedented transit activity through Jordan towards Syria, with the Jaber Border Crossing processing 835 trucks in a single day last Wednesday—the highest daily number in 15 years.

He expects further growth in 2025 as Jordan reopens export routes to Syria, Europe, and Turkey.

Abu Aqoula emphasized that Jordanian customs clearance companies are fully equipped to handle the rising trade volume. He also praised the collaboration between government agencies, customs authorities, and security forces in ensuring smooth trade flow, reinforcing Jordan’s position as a key regional logistics hub.
