Jordan sees 19 percent increase in rainfall
Raed Al-Khatib, Director of the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), confirmed that the recent weather front has improved the current rainy season by 19 percent compared to the seasonal average.
In a statement on Sunday, Al-Khatib highlighted that the highest rainfall was recorded at the Ras Munif station in Ajloun, with 86.8 mm, 15 percent of its seasonal average.
This was followed by the Jordan University station with 68 mm (13 percent of its average), and Al-Robah station in Karak with 55.1 mm (17 percent of its average).
Al-Khatib noted that this weather front, which affected the Kingdom from Wednesday morning to Friday night, was the first atmospheric depression of the current winter season.
He added that the front brought a very cold polar air mass, causing a sharp drop in temperatures. Rainfall occurred across most of the Kingdom, often accompanied by thunder and hail. Strong winds, exceeding 100 km per hour, particularly impacted the southeastern areas. Temperatures also dropped below freezing in mountainous regions and the desert.
Snow showers were reported in the northern and southern highlands, with varying accumulation depending on elevation, particularly on the higher mountain peaks.
