The main suspect in the Tobacco corruption case, Awni Motee', left Jordan on July 12, 2018 - before the factory involved in the illegal production and smuggling of cigarettes got raided by the police.

Soon after, State Minister for Media Affairs, Jumana Ghunaimat, announced that a travel ban was issued against those involved in the case. “The government will not hesitate to arrest those involved, wherever they may be,” Ghunaimat said.

Motee’s son was arrested on July 28, 2018, however, the father is still on the loose.

According to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) website, Motee was only recently added to the seven Jordanians who are listed as “wanted persons”. Charges -according to the Interpol's website- are:

1. Carry out endangerment acts on public safety and security.
2. Carry out acts that would change the country's economic entity or endangers the society basic conditions.
3. Joint customs evasion as it is described as an economic crime .
4. Jointly cheat on goods quality.
5. Joint general sales tax evasion.
6. Money laundering.
