Major bust: Jordan Customs confiscates expired food, medical supplies, unsafe tobacco
The Jordan Customs successfully confiscated large quantities of expired food products, medical supplies, and unsafe tobacco in a major operation.
In a statement on Tuesday, Customs explained that the seizure followed a lengthy investigation involving meticulous surveillance and monitoring by its Anti-Smuggling Directorate. The individuals involved in the operation were arrested and are set to be referred to the appropriate judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
According to the authorities, approximately 11,000 units of medical items, including medications and supplies, were found in extremely poor storage conditions. Additionally, around 76,000 expired plastic medical syringes were seized.
The operation also uncovered roughly 2,000kg of mu’assel (flavored hookah tobacco) deemed unfit for consumption, alongside 1,000kg of expired cocoa.
The department carried out the operation in the central region, in close coordination with various security agencies.
