Prince Hassan concludes working visit to Japan
His Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, accompanied by Princess Sarvath El Hassan, concluded a meaningful working visit to Japan.
The visit featured a meeting with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, along with participation in events that celebrated the strong ties between Jordan and Japan. A key highlight was a ceremony hosted by the Jordanian Embassy to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations, attended by Hisako, Princess Takamado.
In his address, Prince Hassan praised the enduring partnership between the two nations, emphasizing its focus on humanity and mutual enrichment. He advocated for a diplomatic approach rooted in dignity, shared values, and respect for diversity, particularly during a time of global tensions.
Prince Hassan also engaged with academics and students during a visit to Sophia University in Tokyo, drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. He described the deprivation of essentials like health care, education, water, and food as deliberate policies of suffering, stressing the need for a humanitarian framework that upholds dignity as a cornerstone of stability.
During a visit to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Prince Hassan met with agency experts and received updates on their work. He highlighted the critical role of space sciences in disaster monitoring and addressing global challenges for the greater good.
The Prince’s discussions extended to the Japan-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Association, where he called for redirecting global defense budgets toward development and reconstruction, particularly in the Rift Valley region. He also stressed the importance of accurate data systems, such as the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), to better understand and address human deprivation.
Additional meetings included discussions with the Governor Kazuhiko Oigawa of the Ibaraki Prefectural Government, members of the Middle East Institute of Japan (MEIJ), and a press briefing at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ).
