Jordanian journalist released after 7 years of Syrian detention
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced the release of Jordanian journalist Amr Al-Ghraibeh, who had been detained in Syria since 2017, and his return to Jordan today, Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.
Official spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Al-Qudah, confirmed that Syrian authorities released Al-Ghraibeh under a special presidential pardon issued by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Jordanian Embassy in Damascus facilitated his transfer to the Jordanian border, where he was handed over to his family.
Ambassador Al-Qudah expressed gratitude to the Syrian government for its cooperation in securing Al-Ghraibeh’s release, noting the ministry's continuous efforts and communication with Syrian authorities throughout the detention period.
