A 13-year-old boy of Arab nationality has died after falling into a flood channel in Jordan’s Mafraq governorate, according to the Public Security Directorate.

The incident occurred in the Al-Zaatari area, where Civil Defense teams in Mafraq, supported by a specialized river rescue unit from the international search and rescue team, responded to reports of a child swept into a watercourse.

Search operation spans kilometers

Authorities said specialized diving teams conducted extensive search operations along nearly eight kilometers of the flood channel before locating the child’s body.

Emergency crews evacuated the body to the nearest hospital. An investigation into the incident has been opened.

Renewed safety warnings

The Public Security Directorate renewed warnings urging the public to stay away from valleys and flood-prone areas, especially during unstable weather conditions.
