Air traffic at Queen Alia International Airport is beginning to recover gradually, with eight airlines resuming operations after suspensions caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East, a senior airport official said.
Alpros Hamzouq, Chief Operating Officer at Airport International Group, stated that 21 additional airlines are still awaiting suitable conditions before restarting their flights.
Crisis impact on travel
Hamzouq acknowledged that the regional situation has had a severe impact on the aviation sector, leading to a sharp decline in operations.
Aircraft movement dropped by around 55 percent compared to normal operating schedules. The airport also faced widespread flight cancellations and temporary suspension of several routes and destinations.
Gulf countries were among the most affected destinations, due to their strong reliance by Jordanian travelers.
Operational stability despite challenges
Despite the downturn in flights and passenger numbers, Hamzouq confirmed that internal airport operations remain stable.
He highlighted the continued readiness of airport infrastructure and staff to handle all incoming and outgoing flights. Initial challenges related to passenger movement during the early phase of the crisis have also been addressed.
The figures underscore the scale of disruption facing Jordan’s aviation sector, as hopes grow for improved regional stability to enable a full return of airline operations.
