  • Southern Military Region Intercepts Drone Carrying Narcotics, Transfers Seizure to Authorities

The Southern Military Region of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics using a drone on Friday evening, coordinating closely with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.

According to the Southern Military Region command, border guard forces detected the drone as it flew over the western sector within their operational responsibility, carrying illegal substances. This prompted the application of established engagement rules to safely bring down the drone within Jordanian territory.

The operation was successfully executed, with the seized narcotics immediately handed over to the relevant authorities to take the appropriate legal measures.

This incident is part of ongoing efforts by Jordanian security agencies to curb drug smuggling attempts across the country’s borders, whether through conventional methods or unconventional means like drones. Authorities note that drone-related smuggling has increased in recent years due to technological advancements and the relative ease of crossing remote areas.

The Southern Military Region emphasized that continuous coordination between ground forces and the Anti-Narcotics Department has been instrumental in detecting smuggling attempts before they reach their destinations. Officials reaffirmed their readiness to confront all forms of trafficking with precision and effectiveness, ensuring the protection of borders and public safety.

This operation reflects Jordan’s commitment to combating organized crime and smuggling and is part of a series of field operations recently carried out by the armed forces to seize narcotics and other prohibited substances, strengthening security and stability in border regions while safeguarding citizens.
