Jordan launches “Citadel Cable Car” project to boost tourism in Amman
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan officially announced the launch of the “Citadel Cable Car” project, one of the capital’s most prominent upcoming tourism initiatives.
The announcement came during a cabinet session held in Amman, where officials were presented with a video outlining the project, which is expected to bring a transformative change to the city’s central and eastern areas.
Hassan emphasized the government’s high priority for the project, describing it as an important tourism, investment, and economic attraction. He added that the main goal of the cable car is to revitalize the heart of central and eastern Amman, while also playing a key role in creating employment opportunities for local communities.
The Prime Minister stressed that the project aligns with broader governmental efforts to reinforce the historical significance of Amman as a major tourist destination. He highlighted the area’s value as a center of heritage, history, and a deeply rooted community that must be showcased and preserved.
Implementation and routes
The project will be executed and managed by Ru’ya Amman, the investment arm of the Amman Municipality, with direct support from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The illustrative plan revealed two main routes for the cable car:
- Route 1: Connecting the Citadel (Jabal al-Qal’a) with the Al-Lweibdeh area.
- Route 2: Connecting the Citadel with the Roman Theater in downtown Amman.
According to the announced timeline, the project is expected to be completed relatively quickly, with operations set to begin within 15 months of construction start, making the cable car available to visitors and tourists in record time.
