In a high-level diplomatic initiative aimed at consolidating peace in the Middle East, Egypt hosted the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday, October 13th.

The summit was co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, bringing together leaders and representatives from over 30 countries and international organizations.

The summit focused on garnering international support for the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, which was reached on October 9, 2025, to end the war in Gaza. The talks concentrated on ensuring the implementation of key provisions, including a comprehensive ceasefire, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, Israeli withdrawal, and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Trump and Mediators Praised for Role in Ceasefire

During the summit, participants lauded the pivotal role played by US President Trump in brokering the ceasefire and commended Egypt’s efforts in coordinating humanitarian work and hosting the summit.

Leaders also recognized the contributions of Qatar and Turkey in mediating the agreement, emphasizing the importance of moving to the next phase of the plan, which includes reconstruction and the political resolution of the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution.

High-Level Participation

The summit saw participation from heads of state and government from Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, France, Cyprus, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Greece, Armenia, Hungary, Pakistan, Canada, Norway, Iraq, the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the Netherlands, Paraguay, and India. Key international figures included the UN Secretary-General, the Arab League Secretary-General, the European Council President, the FIFA President, and the former UK Prime Minister.

Implementation and Future Steps

The summit emphasized international cooperation to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including the exchange of hostages and prisoners, Israeli withdrawal, and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Leaders signed a joint document endorsing the agreement.

Participants also stressed the need to begin consultations on implementing the next stages of Trump’s settlement plan, including governance, security, reconstruction of Gaza, and advancing the political track for a comprehensive peace.

Egypt’s Commitment to Regional Peace

In the official statement, Egypt reaffirmed its dedication to achieving peace in the Middle East, addressing the root causes of instability, and supporting the Palestinian people in exercising their legitimate rights, including self-determination and the right to live safely in an independent state alongside Israel, based on the pre-1967 borders.

Egypt pledged to continue collaborating with regional and international partners to close a painful chapter in Middle Eastern history and to maintain the “new horizon of peace” established in Sharm El-Sheikh.
