US envoy Witkoff not leaving Egypt until Gaza ceasefire deal reached: Reports

A senior US official told Hebrew Channel 12 on Monday that Washington aims to finalize an agreement on its proposal to end the conflict in Gaza this week, with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner committed to remaining in Egypt until a deal is reached.

Delegates from Hamas and 'Israel' have arrived in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday, an airport source confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP), ahead of indirect talks mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

The discussions are expected to focus on a US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza coupled with a prisoner exchange.

President Donald Trump urged swift progress in the negotiations, describing his discussions with Hamas and international partners as “very positive.” The US delegation is pressing for an agreement that can immediately halt hostilities and secure the release of prisoners held by both sides.
