"No Music For Genocide": Over 400 artists remove their music from platforms in ‘Israel’

Over 400 artists and record labels have launched the "No Music For Genocide" initiative, geo-blocking their music from streaming services in ‘Israel’.

The campaign, which began on Thursday , includes major acts such as Massive Attack, Rina Sawayama, Japanese Breakfast, and Fontaines D.C..

The artists and labels involved state that their action is a direct response to what they describe as "the genocide in Gaza; ethnic cleansing of the Occupied West Bank; apartheid within Israel; and political repression of Pro-Palestine efforts wherever we live".

A statement from the group explains their goal is to inspire others to "reclaim their agency and direct their influence toward a tangible act".

They believe that while culture cannot stop bombs on its own, it can help to reject political repression and "refuse the art-washing and normalization of any company or nation that commits crimes against humanity".

The movement aligns itself with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

To participate, artists either adjust their own release territories or submit geo-block requests through their distributors or labels. While the initiative is primarily led by independent artists and labels like Topshelf Records, LEAVING RECORDS, and NTS , it is also urging major labels like Sony, UMG, and Warner to join the boycott.

The "No Music For Genocide" campaign has publicly expressed solidarity with other efforts, such as the Film Workers for Palestine pledge, which has over 4,000 film industry professionals vowing to not work with 'Israeli' institutions they consider complicit in "genocide and apartheid".
