VIDEO - US again vetoes UN Security Council Gaza ceasefire call

The United States on Thursday again wielded its veto and thwarted a UN Security Council call for a ceasefire in Gaza, shielding its ally ‘Israel’ from meaningful diplomatic pressure.

"The United States rejects this unacceptable resolution. It is beyond time that Hamas release every single hostage now and surrender immediately. The United States will continue to work with its partners to bring an end to this horrific conflict," a US envoy to the UN, Morgan Ortagus, said ahead of Washington's veto.

The proposal, which was supported by a majority of the council's members, was the latest attempt by the body to act in response to the 23-month-long aggression.

The resolution, which was drafted by the council's 10 non-permanent members, came in response to the UN’s official declaration of famine in Gaza in late August.

It called for the immediate removal of all obstacles to aid entry and an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire.

It also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all captives.

This marks another instance of the US using its veto to protect its ally ‘Israel’ on a similar resolution, with the last time occurring in June, with six in total since the aggression on Gaza started.
