Palestinian factions in Gaza issue statement after UN famine alert
Palestinian resistance factions issued a statement Saturday urging urgent international intervention after the United Nations declared that Gaza has officially reached famine levels, following months of siege and systematic deprivation imposed on more than two million people in the territory.
The statement said the announcement comes as the 'Israeli' army prepares for an assault on Gaza City, describing it as part of the “genocidal war” that has continued for nearly two years.
Appeal to the international community
The factions called on the international community, particularly the signatories of the Geneva Conventions, to act immediately under protocols applied in famine situations.
They urged direct humanitarian intervention and the establishment of safe corridors to deliver food and medicine without restrictions.
Appeal to Arab and Islamic countries
They also appealed to Arab and Islamic states to move beyond statements of condemnation and take practical steps to break the blockade and save civilians, warning that Gaza’s population “faces death by starvation due to war crimes.”
The factions further called on Arab and Islamic peoples, along with supporters worldwide, to mobilize and exert pressure in all forms, stressing that “everyone is facing a clear humanitarian test.”
UNRWA: famine can still be prevented
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stressed that famine in Gaza can still be prevented, urging 'Israel' to immediately allow the entry of aid.
The agency stated on X that its warehouses in Jordan and Egypt are stocked with enough supplies for 6,000 truckloads of food and medicine. It emphasized the urgent need to “flood Gaza with massive aid deliveries through the UN, including UNRWA.”
