Alexandria was struck by a sudden and severe rainstorm early Saturday morning, catching residents off guard with intense weather changes that included repeated lightning strikes, thunder, strong winds, heavy rain, and hail in some areas.

Governor Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said has raised the state of alert across all city departments to respond to the ongoing weather instability, which peaked earlier today. The storm brought varying intensities of rain and thunderous winds across the governorate.

The governor directed all executive bodies to maintain a 24-hour field presence to monitor and drain rainwater accumulation, ensure smooth traffic flow, and coordinate closely with the sewage company.

Emergency rooms and control centers across the governorate have also been instructed to monitor the situation in real time and report any developments or damage.

Governor Ahmed Khaled confirmed immediate intervention by all executive agencies to remove water build-up and address damage caused by the strong winds.

Due to the severe weather, he announced a one-hour delay in Saturday’s middle school certificate exams, which will now begin at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m., to give authorities time to implement urgent safety measures and ensure the well-being of students and residents.

The Alexandria Governorate urged residents to cooperate with authorities, exercise caution during rainfall, and avoid flood-prone areas to ensure their safety.
