Toddler killed by cousins in Nile River tragedy
A two-and-a-half-year-old boy tragically drowned after being thrown into the Nile River by two of his young cousins in the city of Dishna, located in Egypt’s Qena Governorate. The incident, which authorities suspect is linked to a longstanding family dispute, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The case unfolded early Sunday morning when the boy was reported missing under mysterious circumstances near his home. Initial investigations by Dishna police soon uncovered signs of foul play. According to official reports, the two children lured their cousin to the riverbank and pushed him into the water while he was still alive.
Further inquiries have revealed that deep-rooted animosity existed between the victim’s family and that of the accused. Investigators suspect that the boys’ mother may have incited them to commit the act, allegedly exploiting their young age to carry out her plan with reduced legal consequences.
River rescue teams are continuing their efforts to recover the child’s body, while the public prosecution has launched a full investigation into the case. Authorities are focusing not only on the actions of the two children, but also on the role of their mother and her potential criminal responsibility.
Under Egyptian law, children under the age of 15 are not held fully criminally liable, raising questions about how the justice system will address the case.
