Inflation rises 1.97% in first four months of 2025 in Jordan

The general consumer price index in Jordan rose to 112.39 points during the first four months of 2025, up 1.97 percent from 110.21 points in the same period of 2024, according to the Department of Statistics’ monthly report issued Monday.

The biggest contributors to the rise included personal effects (up 19.01 percent), tobacco and cigarettes (12.65 percent), tea, coffee, and cocoa (5.73 percent), fruits and nuts (5.52 percent), and spices and food additives (5.38 percent).

In April alone, inflation increased by 1.83 percent year-on-year, reaching 112.53 points compared to 110.50 in April 2024. Key drivers were personal effects (21.94 percent), fruits and nuts (15.17 percent), tobacco (12.55 percent), tea and coffee (9.32 percent), and spices (5.53 percent).

Some categories saw price drops, including household appliances (down 3.04 percent), furniture and bedding (2.71 percent), canned vegetables and legumes (1.91 percent), and seafood (1.65 percent).

Month-on-month, inflation edged up 0.09 percent in April compared to March, mainly due to increases in fruits and nuts (9.43 percent), personal effects (5.68 percent), tea and coffee (4.73 percent), vegetables (1.07 percent), and home maintenance (0.45 percent).
