Over 34,000 remote trials held in first quarter of 2025: Justice Ministry
The Jordanian Ministry of Justice announced Tuesday that 34,300 remote trial sessions were held during the first quarter of 2025.
These sessions were conducted under Article 158, Paragraph 2 of the amended Code of Criminal Procedure No. 9 of 1961.
The law allows prosecutors and courts to use modern technology in investigations and trials, as long as the defendant’s right to defense is upheld. It specifically permits remote trials for inmates from within their correctional facilities.
The remote trial system electronically links courts with correctional and rehabilitation centers, allowing inmates to attend hearings without being transported to court.
The initiative aims to save time and resources, reduce costs, and enhance public safety. It currently applies to criminal cases.
