Most notable Palestinian detainees being released today

A significant number of detainees are being released today as part of a larger prisoner exchange deal. Among them are several individuals with notable histories tied to resistance.

One of the most prominent figures is Ahmed Barghouti, a close aide and cousin of Marwan Barghouti. Ahmed was sentenced to 13 life sentences after allegedly being found guilty of involvement in a resistance operation that resulted in the deaths of 12 "Israelis".

Mazen al-Qadi, a Fatah leader, is also among those being released. Al-Qadi was convicted of allegedly assisting in the 2002 attack at a seafood market in Tel Aviv, where three "Israelis" were killed. He was sentenced to three life sentences and an additional 20 years in prison for his role. He was also isolated and suffered from severe health conditions.

Another key figure set for release is Mantzur Sharim, a Fatah leader from Tulkarm allegedly responsible for a series of attacks during the Second Intifada. His actions allegedly included a mass shooting at a banquet hall in Hadera in 2001, which left six "Israelis" dead and 26 others wounded. He was sentenced to 14 life sentences and an additional 50 years in prison for his involvement in these attacks.

Hamas members are also among the detainees to be freed. Notably, Nael Obeid, allegedly involved in the 2003 bombing at Cafe Hillel in Jerusalem, which killed seven "Israelis" and wounded 57 others, will be released. Muhammad Mezlah, allegedly a key figure in the 2000 Ramallah lynching that resulted in the deaths of two Israeli Occupation reservists, is also on the list.

Senior officials from the Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades are among the other detainees being released. This includes Ahmed Abu Hader, who allegedly planned an attack on Sheba Medical Center, and Muhammad Naifa, who, along with Osama Ashkar, was allegedly responsible for attacks in October 2002 that left eight "Israelis" dead.

Other figures set for release include Abd al-Karim Awis and Amjad Takatka, both allegedly involved in the 2002 Mahane Yehuda market attack in Jerusalem, which resulted in six "Israeli" deaths. Bakr Najjar, who allegedly was involved in a shooting attack at Zif Junction in 2002 that killed four "Israelis," will also be released.

Finally, detainees such as Rasem Hussein from Tulkarm and Shadi Abu Shahidam, allegedly responsible for a 2002 suicide bombing in Jerusalem that killed one and injured over 100, are among the detainees being released today.
