In a symbolic move, Hamas gave the captives released today during the sixth prisoner exchange a gift to deliver to Einav Zangauker, the mother of Hamas-held captive Matan—an hourglass—signifying that time is running out for her son and the others still in captivity.

This hourglass represents the idea that time is running out for her son and the others still in captivity.

Einav Zangauker is well-known for her advocacy for the release of captives and for criticizing Prime Minister Netanyahu. Recently, she took legal action, suing for the full release of the text of the ceasefire and captive release agreement with Hamas.

She was recently subjected to a wave of online abuse in 'Israel', with critics accusing her of being responsible for her son’s continued captivity. Social media users have mocked and insulted her, with some saying she prioritized personal gain over her son’s release.

One comment accused her of "selling her son for dental treatments," while another said she was strengthening Hamas by advocating for negotiations. Others alleged she was more interested in receiving financial aid from Qatar or securing an apartment in Tel Aviv than fighting for Matan’s freedom.

Zangauker, a vocal advocate for a captive deal, was also recently barred from entering the Knesset for alleged disruptions, including violating order during committee discussions. In response, she accused the government of attempting to silence captive families, questioning why she is denied access to lawmakers while they "transfer budgets and trade jobs."

On Saturday, Hamas displayed a photo of Matan Zangauker and his mother during the release of three captives. The image was paired with an hourglass, a symbol often used in Hamas videos featuring captives, accompanied by the phrase: "Time is running out."

Einav Zangauker, who appeared in a "proof of life" video released by Hamas in December 2024, has been outspoken in her criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu. She made a plea, urging him to negotiate for the return of the captives.

Matan Zangauker’s name was notably absent from the list of the first 33 captives to be released in the initial phase of the ceasefire deal.

While the specifics of the second phase are still unclear, it is anticipated to include additional captive releases. Negotiations are ongoing, as both sides strive to reach a final agreement.
