Jordan to be hit by polar air mass Wednesday
The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecasts that the country will be gradually affected on Wednesday by a low-pressure system accompanied by an intensely cold polar air mass, centered over the island of Cyprus.
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with cold and cloudy weather prevailing. Rainfall will begin in northern Jordan, later extending to central regions, where it could be heavy at times, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
Strong westerly winds will develop on Wednesday, reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h in some areas, causing dust storms, particularly in desert regions.
Intensifying cold and heavy rain on Thursday
By Wednesday night, the low-pressure system will intensify, bringing widespread rainfall and increasing the risk of flooding in valleys and low-lying areas.
On Thursday, the polar air mass will continue to impact the country, with temperatures dropping further. The weather will be very cold, cloudy, and rainy across most regions, with heavy downpours at times, increasing the likelihood of flash floods.
By early Thursday morning, rain mixed with snow may fall over high-altitude mountainous areas, while strong winds will enhance the bitter cold.
Frost and ice expected on Thursday
By Friday, the storm system will weaken, and precipitation chances will decrease, though very cold conditions will persist.
During the night and early morning hours, the likelihood of frost and ice formation will rise, particularly in high-altitude and desert areas.
