Jordan’s underwhelming wet season sees small glimmer of hope

The latest weather maps indicate that a combination of the Siberian High and the Red Sea Trough will impact Jordan on Tuesday. This interaction is expected to generate brisk southeastern winds, increasing the feeling of cold and possibly stirring dust and sand in desert areas – per ArabiaWeather.

Daytime temperatures on Tuesday are anticipated to rise slightly above seasonal averages, with relatively cool weather prevailing across most regions. However, warmer conditions will persist in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.

As night falls, southeastern winds are expected to remain active, intensifying the sensation of cold and continuing to raise dust, especially in desert regions.

Wednesday and Thursday

From Wednesday onwards, the Red Sea Trough is projected to expand over the region, coinciding with the approach of an upper-level low-pressure system. ArabiaWeather’s computer models predict the onset of unstable weather conditions by midday Wednesday.

The morning hours of Wednesday are expected to be cold and stable, with scattered medium and high clouds. By noon and afternoon, intermittent rainfall is likely, with isolated thunderstorms in some areas.

Unstable conditions are set to persist on Thursday, with temperatures dropping and fluctuating between partly cloudy and cloudy skies. Showers, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms, are anticipated over northern and central regions of the kingdom.

Much-needed rainfall

While this weather instability is categorized as a secondary system rather than a major winter storm, it presents a critical opportunity for areas in dire need of rainfall.

ArabiaWeather notes that this precipitation, though limited, will contribute to soil moisture, benefiting the agricultural sector, which has been suffering under current dry conditions.

The rainy season has reached a precarious stage, and while the expected rainfall won’t fully alleviate deficits, it will provide some relief.

However, long-term weather maps suggest no imminent return to typical winter patterns, with most weather systems resembling spring or fall conditions rather than winter.
