Over 30k vehicles covered by mandatory vehicle warranty platform
A total of 30,125 vehicles of various types have been covered under the mandatory vehicle warranty platform in just 15 months, according to Yanal Barmawi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.
Barmawi noted that since the decision to require mandatory warranties for new vehicles came into effect in October 2023, the platform has registered:
- 13 maintenance centers
- 702 traders
During the same period, the ministry received 52 complaints related to the initiative.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Ministry, through the Consumer Protection Directorate, developed a comprehensive plan and established a dedicated platform for mandatory warranties.
The platform is integrated with key entities, such as the Customs Department and the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department.
This integration aims to facilitate the accreditation of warranty service providers, including agents, insurance companies, and approved maintenance centers.
According to a Cabinet decision issued in September 2023:
- New electric vehicles must have a mandatory written warranty valid for 3 years or 50,000km, whichever comes first.
- Gasoline and hybrid vehicles require a warranty valid for 2 years or 40,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
Mandatory warranty costs range between 3 percent and 7 percent of the vehicle's value, excluding sales tax, with a minimum cost of JD 300.
The initiative aims to protect consumers and ensure the quality of vehicles sold outside official dealerships.
