The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, Brig. Gen. Hassan Al-Qudah, announced that 25,260 drug-related cases were handled in 2024, involving 38,782 individuals. These cases included drug abuse, promotion, and trafficking offenses.

He revealed that authorities seized over 27.5 million Captagon pills, 3,000 kilograms of hashish, 262 kilograms of marijuana, 62 kilograms of crystal meth, 33 kilograms of synthetic hashish, and 11.5 kilograms of Joker powder. Additionally, 13.5 kilograms of heroin and nearly 3 kilograms of cocaine were confiscated.

Treatment and rehabilitation efforts

Highlighting the department's focus on rehabilitation, Al-Qudah noted that the Public Security Directorate (PSD) established Jordan's first drug treatment center in 1993.

This initiative followed the 1988 law exempting drug users from legal prosecution if they voluntarily sought treatment or were reported by their families.

Treatment is offered confidentially and free of charge, addressing both physical and psychological needs.

In 2024, 744 individuals received treatment, while 7,179 awareness activities were conducted in collaboration with partners, including the Directorate of Media and Community Police.

He also noted that in 2009, the treatment center moved to a larger facility in Arjan, which was expanded in 2012 to accommodate 170 beds. Plans are underway to establish a dental clinic at the center, with strategic support from the Ministry of Health, which provides specialized medical staff.

Fight against drugs

Al-Qudah emphasized the sacrifices made by the department, noting that eight staff members have lost their lives in the line of duty. He affirmed the team’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens from the scourge of drugs.

The department handles all reports and information with strict confidentiality, verifying their accuracy and taking necessary action. Al-Qudah stressed the vital role of citizens as key partners in combating drug-related crimes.
