Ghassan Sweidan, director of the observatory, told Roya News that the team is closely monitoring the fault zone in the Dead Sea to ensure the safety of surrounding areas. He reassured residents that no aftershocks have been recorded in Jordan following the tremor.

Earthquake details:

  • Magnitude: 4.0 on the Richter scale.
  • Location: Ghor Safi area, Dead Sea basin.
  • Time: 10:00 local time.
  • Depth: 17 kilometers.

Sweidan added that technical teams are analyzing data from monitoring stations across the kingdom around the clock.

The Dead Sea region lies within the Great African Rift, a zone that experiences periodic seismic activity. The observatory classified this tremor as “weak to moderate,” likely felt by residents but not expected to cause structural damage.
