The European Commission announced Friday the initiation of a Humanitarian Air Bridge to deliver critical healthcare and essential supplies to Syria.

EU-funded flights will transport 50 tons of health supplies from Dubai and 46 tons of health, education, and shelter items from Denmark to Adana, Türkiye, for distribution across the border.

Additionally, the EU has allocated €4 million in new funding, raising its total humanitarian aid for 2024 to €163 million. The support includes trauma kits, emergency shelter supplies, and food parcels for 61,500 people in northern Syria.

Since the Syrian crisis began, the EU and its Member States announced they have provided over €33 billion in aid to Syrians both inside the country and across the region.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of assistance amidst Syria's volatile situation, saying, "Our help to the people of Syria is ever more important."
