The New York Times (NYT) reported, citing the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), that more than 100,000 people have been subjected to enforced disappearance by Bashar Al-Assad's regime since 2011.

The network stated that at least 85,000 of those missing have died in detention centers as a result of torture or execution.

For his part, the commander of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad Al-Shara, often known by the pseudonym Abu Muhammad Al-Jolani, stated that they are committed to pursuing everyone involved in the torture or execution of detainees, emphasizing that these crimes will not go unpunished.

Shara added, "There will be no amnesty for those involved, and we demand that countries hand over fugitives from justice to be brought to trial."

He stressed that these crimes represent a blatant violation of human rights and called on the international community to stand by the Syrian people to achieve justice and accountability for the crimes committed.
