Lebanese army expands deployment in southern Litani sector
The Lebanese Army announced on Wednesday that it has begun reinforcing its presence in the southern Litani sector, extending state authority in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
In a statement, the army said this step aligns with the Lebanese government’s commitment to fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and related obligations, particularly regarding the increased deployment of military and security forces south of the Litani River.
The statement also noted that designated military units are relocating from various areas to the southern Litani sector, where they will be stationed at specified sites.
The ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israeli Occupation came into effect at 4:00 AM Wednesday (Jerusalem and Beirut time), as confirmed by US President Joe Biden during his announcement of the agreement.
The Lebanese Army urged residents returning to southern border villages, particularly in the districts of Tyre, Bint Jbeil, and Marjayoun, to avoid areas still occupied by "Israeli" forces for their safety.
