Lebanese Parliament Speaker hails ceasefire
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized the importance of the recently achieved ceasefire, praising all efforts that contributed to its realization.
Speaking on Wednesday, Berri stressed the need for national unity among the Lebanese people, describing it as the cornerstone for building a stronger and more resilient Lebanon.
“This is a test for all Lebanese from all sects,” Berri said, highlighting the historic significance of the ceasefire, which he described as ending one of Lebanon’s most dangerous chapters that threatened its people and history.
He underscored the urgency of electing a new president, stating that the ceasefire should accelerate efforts to achieve this step, as it is crucial for the country’s stability.
Berri also urged all communities and political factions to preserve Lebanon's unity and strength, calling on displaced individuals to return to their homes and villages, even if they have been reduced to rubble.
The ceasefire, which came into effect early Wednesday, was confirmed by US President Joe Biden, marking an agreement between Lebanon and Israeli Occupation. Hebrew media reported that the country’s security cabinet approved the truce.
