Spain, Ireland push for suspension of EU free trade agreement with Israeli Occupation
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in coordination with Ireland, urged European Union (EU) member states to suspend the free trade agreement with the Israeli Occupation in response to its ongoing violations in Palestinian territories.
Sánchez’s call aims to increase pressure on the Israeli Occupation to halt its actions and comply with international law.
In earlier remarks, he called on the international community to stop the sale of arms to "Israel", condemning its repeated attacks on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
"I strongly condemn the occupation forces' attacks on the UN mission in Lebanon," Sánchez stated during a press conference. He also noted that Spain had already taken action by halting arms exports to "Israel" as of October 2023, and urged other nations to follow suit.
Sánchez stressed that these measures are necessary to prevent further escalation in the region and to contribute to greater stability. "The international community must act decisively to curb the violence and promote peace," he added.
