Jordan strongly condemns Israeli Occupation strikes on Gaza shelters, hospital
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a sharp condemnation of the Israeli Occupation's recent airstrikes targeting civilian shelters in Gaza, calling the attacks "heinous war crimes."
The strikes hit a school in Al-Nuseirat camp, which was sheltering displaced people and had been scheduled as a vaccination site for polio, as well as tents housing displaced families in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. The bombings resulted in dozens of casualties and injuries.
In an official statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Qudah expressed Jordan’s “absolute rejection and condemnation” of the attacks, accusing the Israeli Occupation of systematically targeting civilians and violating international law. He described the strikes as "a blatant breach" of international humanitarian law and the 1949 Geneva Convention, which mandates the protection of civilians in times of war.
Qudah criticized "Israel" for its continued disregard of international calls to cease its military campaign, which he said is fueling an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza. He emphasized the need to protect civilians, humanitarian facilities, and essential infrastructure serving the Palestinian population, as stipulated by international law.
Qudah urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take immediate action to stop the "Israeli" attacks. He called for decisive measures to ensure the safety of the Palestinian people, hold "Israel" accountable for its violations of international law, and put an end to the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip.
The "Israeli" strikes come amid escalating aggression on Gaza, with humanitarian organizations warning of a rapidly deteriorating situation for civilians in the region.
Jordan has consistently called for a ceasefire and international intervention to protect Palestinian lives and ensure accountability for war crimes.
