The president of the General Trade Union of Workers in Textile, Garment and Clothing, Sultan Alan, stated that the business activity in the local market for the garment and footwear sector is currently experiencing a relative slowdown.

Alan added in a press statement to the Jordan News Agency Petra that there is a slight improvement in purchasing compared to some previous periods of the current year.

He explained that the sector's sales were affected by the prevailing weather conditions, which influenced market dynamics, despite the significant availability of various goods.

Alan emphasized that the decline in citizens' purchasing power and the challenging conditions in Gaza negatively impacted the sector's activity, despite price stability ranging between three and five percent in some categories.

He pointed out that the Kingdom's imports for the current winter season are estimated at around JD 90 million for garments and JD 14 million for footwear, noting that these figures are approximate.

Alan confirmed that sector traders contributed with donations worth USD 3.06 million through the "Gaza in Our Hearts" campaign in collaboration with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) to support the people of Gaza facing Israeli Occupation aggression.

He mentioned that the number of garment and footwear items donated reached 558,000 pieces, coming from traders in Jordan and abroad, including China, Turkey, Vietnam and Cambodia.

It is worth noting that the garment, footwear, and textile sector are considered one of the largest commercial sectors in Jordan, contributing significantly to the local economy.
