Royal Decree assigns former PM Samir Al-Rifai to form Royal Committee to modernize political system

A Royal Decree was issued Thursday appointing the former Prime Minister, Samir Al-Rifai, to form a Royal Committee to modernize the political system, with a membership of 92 people.

Rifai's task will be to draft a new election law and a new draft law for political parties, and to consider constitutional amendments that are legally related to the two laws and other parliamentary work mechanisms.

The committee, which consists of 92 members representing the various political and intellectual spectrums and various sectors, will provide recommendations related to the development of legislation regulating local administration, expanding the base of participation in decision-making, and creating a legislative and political environment that guarantees the role of youth and women in public life.
