Weather update: Cold, rainy and snowy weekend ahead

A cold air front centered over Syria is expected to hit the Kingdom tomorrow evening, setting up the chance of snowfall in some areas, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

During daytime tomorrow, the weather will be cold and cloudy, with a chance of rain showers in parts of the northern and central regions of the Kingdom.

At night, the air mass will begin to affect the Kingdom, as the weather will be extremely cold and cloudy.

The northern and central regions of the Kingdom and parts of the southern regions will witness rainfall.

After midnight, rain may be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstones in some areas.

Westerly moderate speed to active winds are in the forecast.

JMD has warned of: 

  • Risk of slippery roads during rainfall.
  • Risk of speedy winds.
  • Risk of flooding in lowlands and valleys.
  • Low visibility due to fog over the high areas.

On Friday, January 24, the weather will remain extremely cold, cloudy and rainy in most areas of the Kingdom.

Rainfall is expected to be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail showers, especially in the western areas of the Kingdom. Some high areas are expected to witness snowfall.

At night, frost formation is in the forecast in several areas, with northwesterly active winds.

Citizens are warned of:

  • Risk of slippery roads during rainfall.
  • Risk of speedy winds.
  • Risk of flooding in lowlands and valleys.
  • Low visibility due to fog over the high areas.
  • Frost forming at midnight.

On Saturday, January 25, stable weather conditions are forecast, as a rise in temperatures is expected.

The weather will be relatively cold in most parts of the Kingdom, yet it will be pleasant in the valleys and the city of Aqaba.

At night, the weather will be extremely cold, with a chance of frost formation in several areas and northwesterly moderate speed winds.

JMD warns citizens of:

  • Low visibility due to fog over the high areas and parts of the Badia region in the morning and at night.
  • Frost forming at midnight in the high areas and the Badia region.
