Flood waters raided homes in southern Shouna overnight, causing heavy losses to property.

Emergency and civil defence teams rushed to the Nahdha area to help citizens evacuate their homes, indicating large losses to furniture and property.

Mayor of central Shouna, Ibrahim Edwan, said that the reason for flooding is due to crusher machines outside the jurisdiction dumping in the valley which diverted the course of running rain water.

Edwan demanded official authorities to prosecute the perpetrators and for the valley to be cleared.

For his part, the director of the Southern Shouna Brigade, Bassem Mubaidin, said that a committee was set up to inspect the quarry site near the valley and will take legal action against violators.

He added that some families living near Wadi Al-Ramah were evacuated as a precaution.
