Yemeni government forces reclaim areas around Taiz, commander says

Yemeni government troops have taken back a number of front-line positions to the west and south of Taiz city from Houthi fighters, according to a senior military commander.
Major-General Abdulaziz al-Majidi, who serves as chief of staff of the Taiz military force, told the state-run Saba news agency that soldiers, together with allied tribal fighters, had freed several areas on the edge of the strategically important city following clashes with Houthi ground forces.
He said the Houthis sustained casualties and lost equipment in the fighting.
Al-Majidi added that government-aligned fighters also pushed back a Houthi advance intended to strengthen the blockade of Taiz. The city, Yemen's third largest, has been split by front lines between the internationally recognised government and the Houthis since 2015.
