A vibrant new mural has appeared amidst the landscape of Gaza, honoring FC Barcelona’s teenage superstar Lamine Yamal following his public display of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

The mural, painted on a weathered wall of a house destroyed by ‘Israeli’ strikes in the Shati refugee Camp in Gaza City, depicts the forward against the backdrop of the Palestinian flag.

Artist Obay Kareem on Instagram shared the work he created this week to express gratitude after Yamal was seen waving the flag during FC Barcelona’s La Liga title celebration.

During the open-top bus parade through the streets of Barcelona, Yamal requested a Palestinian flag from fans in the crowd and hoisted it high for several minutes.

For residents in Gaza, the mural serves as a powerful symbol of international visibility. One of the artists involved noted that the goal was to show the young athlete that his message reached those living amongst the rubble.

The Spanish government noted that the act aligned with Spain's official recognition of Palestinian statehood.

The act drew sharp criticism from some ‘Israeli’ officials, who labeled the display as incitement.
