Violence broke out in the Old City’s Christian Quarter on Thursday as groups of extremist ‘Israeli’ settlers stormed the neighborhood, leading to direct confrontations with Palestinians, according to Palestinian media reports.

The incident occurred amid heightened tensions surrounding the so-called annual "Flag March," a provocative event where tens of thousands of right-wing ‘Israelis’ parade through Palestinian areas to celebrate what some ‘Israelis’ call the “reunification of Jerusalem” (Occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967).

The clashes began when settlers entered the Christian Quarter (Harat al-Nasara), a move seen by locals as a deliberate attempt to expand the footprint of the march into traditionally quieter sectors of the Old City.

Palestinian youths moved to defend the neighborhood, leading to scuffles.

The violence follows a series of recent escalations in East Jerusalem. Earlier today, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a move widely condemned by Palestinian officials as a "blatant provocation" aimed at altering the status quo of the holy sites.

Under international law, East Jerusalem is considered occupied territory. For the Palestinian residents of the Old City, these recurring incursions represent a broader strategy of displacement and "Judaization" of their ancestral neighborhoods.
