Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs confirmed it is following up on the deaths of two Jordanian citizens who were recruited to fight with the Russian army.

In a statement, the ministry said its Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate is continuing to monitor cases in which Jordanian citizens are lured by external parties for illegal recruitment. The ministry said the two citizens were killed after being recruited to participate in combat alongside Russian forces.

The ministry added that it is coordinating with relevant authorities to recover the bodies of all Jordanian citizens who were killed after being recruited, in order to return them to the Kingdom. It expressed condolences to their families and prayed for mercy upon the deceased.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Majali reiterated that recruiting Jordanian citizens to fight in foreign armies constitutes a violation of Jordanian law and international law, and places the lives of citizens at serious risk.

Majali urged citizens to report any attempts to recruit them into the Russian army and warned against engaging with such offers due to the dangers involved and the legal violations they represent.

He also said the ministry is calling on Russian authorities to stop recruiting Jordanians and to end the recruitment of any Jordanian citizen previously enlisted in the Russian army. The ministry will pursue all available measures to halt the practice.
