The Chief of Staff of the ‘Israeli’ army, Eyal Zamir, warned that 2026 would be “a year of decisiveness and high-intensity attacks,” signaling continued escalation in the region.

Zamir spoke with reserve division commanders on Sunday, according to an army statement issued Monday, without specifying the location of the meeting.

“We are enhancing our ground combat maneuver power, including building formations, increasing offensive capability, boosting operational mobility, developing robotic capacities, and raising the readiness of emergency stockpiles for reserve divisions,” Zamir said.

Threats and operational focus

The army statement emphasized that ‘Israel’ is preparing for a multi-front campaign. “2026 will be a year in which we operate at a high operational-offensive pace to continue weakening threats and decisively confront our enemies along the frontlines,” Zamir added, without providing further specifics.

His comments come as ‘Israel’ continues attacks and threats against regional countries, along with violations of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that has been in effect since October 10, 2023.

The army also continues to breach the ceasefire with Hezbollah, following a large-scale assault on Lebanon that began in September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring around 17,000.

Regional tensions

Zamir’s statements arrive amid rising tensions with Iran, which has warned that the U.S. and ‘Israel’ are manufacturing pretexts for military intervention and regime change. Tehran has pledged to respond to any attack, even a limited one, while continuing to demand the lifting of Western sanctions in exchange for nuclear program restrictions.

The remarks highlight the continued militarization and volatility in the region, raising concerns over potential escalations across multiple fronts in 2026.
