The Jerusalem Governorate on Monday warned of a severe escalation by ‘Israeli’ authorities targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque, citing restrictions that prevent the Islamic Waqf from carrying out essential logistical preparations for Ramadan.
Officials said these unilateral measures violate the historical and legal status of the holy site.
Logistical restrictions and staff targeting
The Governorate said the 'Israeli' authorities are blocking basic arrangements, including:
- Shade and protection: Preventing installation of umbrellas or shelters against sun and rain.
- Medical services: Hindering temporary field clinics for worshippers.
- Waqf staff: Removing around 25 employees and arresting four others, disrupting the management of the mosque.

Since the start of the year, over 250 expulsion orders have been issued against Aqsa Mosque personnel. Meanwhile, the so-called “Temple Mount School” announced extended morning raid hours from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, adding a full hour to previous schedules.
The change follows requests from “Temple organizations” to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assert control over the site during Ramadan.
Strict access limits for worshippers
Under the Ramadan plan, Palestinians from the West Bank face heavy restrictions:
- Attendance cap: Only 10,000 worshippers allowed on Fridays.
- Age limits: Entry limited to men over 55 and women over 50.
- Advance permits: Security approval required for entry to Jerusalem.
- Calls for vigilance and international action
The Governorate stressed that these measures are null and void under international law.
It urged Palestinians, particularly in 'Israel', to increase their presence and vigilance at Aqsa Mosque to counter Judaization efforts.
The statement also called on the international community to intervene immediately to protect the holy site and prevent escalation.
