  • 'Israeli' airlines prepare emergency plans amid fears of Iranian retaliation.
  • Lufthansa and KLM suspend or limit flights to 'Israel' as tensions rise.

'Israeli' airlines are stepping up contingency measures amid fears of a potential Iranian strike, sources told Israel Hayom. The aviation sector is reportedly reviewing flight restrictions and preparing to relocate aircraft to foreign airports if security conditions deteriorate.

Officials say advance coordination is underway with international airports to secure parking for 'Israeli' planes should authorities issue emergency directives.

Civil Aviation Warnings

Shmuel Zakai, head of 'Israel’s' Civil Aviation Authority, warned foreign carriers that the coming weekend could be particularly sensitive. His message did not rule out the temporary closure of 'Israel’s' airspace, similar to restrictions imposed during clashes with Iran in October 2024 and June 2025.

Local media report that 'Israel' fears retaliatory strikes if Iran is targeted by a US-led military action. 'Israel' is coordinating closely with the United States on potential military operations. In June 2025, 'Israel', backed by the US, launched a 12-day campaign against Iran targeting military and nuclear sites as well as key personnel. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes on 'Israeli' facilities.

Flight Cancellations

Last Thursday, Germany’s Lufthansa group extended the suspension of night flights to Tel Aviv until February 3, citing ongoing tensions and potential US action against Iran. The group includes Swiss International Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

Similarly, Dutch carrier KLM announced on Wednesday that it is halting flights to 'Israel' until further notice, anticipating possible Iranian retaliation.

Regional Implications

The United States maintains that all options, including military action, remain on the table to counter Iran, while Tehran accuses Washington of seeking to overthrow its government. Iran has also vowed a “comprehensive and swift” response to any attack. The US has criticized Iran’s crackdown on protests over economic hardship that left thousands dead in late 2025.

International airlines are monitoring developments closely, with flight schedules likely to remain restricted until tensions ease.
