Aleppo’s Health Directorate announced on Wednesday that the civilian death toll from an attack on the city has risen to four, with 18 others wounded.
The directorate said the casualties resulted from shelling that targeted residential neighborhoods in Aleppo, blaming the attack on the Syrian Democratic Forces.
According to the statement, the victims were civilians living in densely populated areas, with several of the wounded reported to be in critical condition.
In a related military development, the Syrian Arab Army’s Operations Command announced on Wednesday that all military positions belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces inside the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are now considered “legitimate military targets.”
The army said the decision followed what it described as a major escalation against safe neighborhoods in Aleppo and the commission of multiple massacres against civilians.
To reduce civilian harm, the army announced the opening of two humanitarian corridors to allow residents to leave the area. The designated routes were al-Awarid crossing and al-Zohour Street crossing. The deadline for evacuation ended at 3:00 pm on Wednesday.
Despite the announcement of safe passages, local sources from inside Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh said residents were still being prevented from leaving by force. The sources warned of growing fears that civilians could be used as human shields as military operations approach.
