  • One person was killed and two others injured in Al-Dulayl, Jordan, when an “old explosive device” detonated as they attempted to cut it while collecting scrap metal.
  • Jordan’s Public Security Directorate has cordoned off the site for investigation and issued an urgent warning to the public against handling or transporting any suspicious metallic objects found in open fields.

An “old explosive object” detonated in the Al-Dulayl area in Jordan’s Zarqa governorate on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and two others with varying degrees of injury, Jordan’s Public Security Directorate (PSD) said in a statement.

The victims were transporting materials gathered while collecting scrap.

The statement added that one victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival to the hospital, while the other two continue receiving medical treatment.

The device detonated when they attempted to “cut it”, according to the PSD.

The directorate cautioned the public against tampering with or moving any suspicious objects discovered in open areas.

Authorities emphasized that such items should never be transported to residential homes and instructed citizens to report any suspicious finds to the relevant agencies immediately.

Authorities cordoned the site and are currently investigating the circumstances of the blast, the statement concluded.
