Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah attended the inaugural Franca Fund Gala at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha on Sunday evening, organized by Qatar’s hub for innovation, M7, and The Franca Sozzani Fund for Preventive Genomics, in support of medical research. Queen Rania was received by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, chairperson of Qatar Museums, and co-chair of Fashion Trust Arabia.
Co-hosted by Her Excellency, Franca Fund Founder and son of Franca Sozzani, Francesco Carrozzini, as well as Global Editorial Director at Vogue Anna Wintour, the event paid tribute to the life and legacy of the late Editor-in-Chief at Vogue Italia Franca Sozzani, who passed away due to a rare cancer in 2016. The event was organized to support ongoing research programs in preventive genomics at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Brigham, led by medical geneticist and Harvard professor Dr. Robert Green.
The Franca Fund is a research and advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the use of genomic data to help predict and prevent disease before symptoms arise, with a focus on underserved communities. Established in 2018, it aims to improve access to cutting-edge personalized medical treatments for a variety of health concerns.
Founded by Qatar Museums under the leadership of Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, M7 is Qatar’s epicenter for innovation in fashion, design, and technology. The hub offers resources, opportunities, and platforms including mentorship programs, exhibitions, pop-ups, and public events.
