- The ‘Israeli’ military published footage of what it says is a sprawling, 7-kilometer-long Hamas tunnel network in Rafah that was allegedly used to store the remains of officer Hadar Goldin.
- The remains of Goldin, who was killed in the 2014 assault on Gaza, were returned to ‘Israel’ last week as part of the ongoing US-brokered cease-fire agreement.
The ‘Israeli’ military published on Thursday video footage of what it says is a sprawling Hamas tunnel network in southern Gaza's Rafah area, where the remains of Hadar Goldin had been stored by the group for several years.
The tunnel, described by the ‘Israeli’ military as one of the “most significant and complex” discovered in the Gaza Strip to date was reportedly uncovered recently.
Goldin's body was returned to ‘Israel’ just last week, marking the end of an 11-year captivity following his death during the 2014 Gaza War.
According to the ‘Israeli’ military, the tunnel extends over seven kilometers in length, descends up to 25 meters underground, and features approximately 80 separate rooms.
These spaces were utilized by Hamas fighters for extended stays, weapon storage, attack planning, and as command centers for senior figures, including the late Rafah Brigade commander Muhammad Shabana, according to the statement.

Hadar Goldin
Lt. Hadar Goldin, a 23-year-old officer, was killed and his body taken by Hamas fighters during the 2014 ‘Israeli’ assault on the Gaza Strip.
His family waged a prolonged public campaign for his return, even holding a symbolic funeral in 2014 with his personal items after military confirmation of his death.
For over a decade, Goldin was one of several ‘Israelis’ whose remains were held by Hamas; with the ‘Israeli’ military unable to recover his body despite invading Gaza for more than two years.
Hamas announced on November 8 that it had recovered Goldin's body from a tunnel in Rafah and handed it over via the Red Cross the following day.
‘Israeli’ officials confirmed the identification at the national forensic institute.
This return is part of a US-brokered truce initiated last month, under which Hamas has released the remains of 23 captives, with ‘Israel’ reciprocating by returning bodies of around 300 Palestinians.
