The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has raised alarm over escalating attacks on humanitarian workers in Gaza and Sudan, where five volunteers were killed this week, the organization’s Director-General, Pierre Krahenbuhl, told Agence France-Presse on Friday.

Pierre Krahenbuhl, speaking from Bahrain, described the situation as “very dramatic” and noted that targeting aid workers is becoming a concerning pattern. “It is now becoming a pattern of violence against humanitarian workers in Sudan, in Gaza, and others,” he said.

Krahenbuhl also called on 'Israel' to lift its ban on ICRC visits to Palestinian detainees, emphasizing that the organization poses no security risk. “There is no way in which our visits can pose a security threat or a national security threat to Israel,” he told AFP.

The ICRC continues to urge safe and unrestricted access for its staff to ensure the protection and support of vulnerable populations in conflict zones.
