Jordan, Syria foil seven drug smuggling attempts, seize 1 million pills
The anti-narcotics departments of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Syrian Arab Republic have issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to continued cooperation and coordination in the fight against drug trafficking and smuggling across their shared border.
According to the statement, seven drug smuggling attempts were thwarted in recent weeks as a direct result of the joint efforts, leading to the seizure of approximately one million narcotic pills destined for illicit distribution across the region.
The two agencies also confirmed that several organized criminal networks involved in regional drug trafficking have been dismantled, and a number of individuals linked to the operations were arrested. These networks, the statement noted, posed a direct threat to the security and stability of both countries and the wider region.
The joint statement emphasized that ongoing field coordination and intelligence-sharing between Jordan and Syria have produced tangible results, demonstrating the effectiveness of bilateral security cooperation. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying joint efforts and maintaining the highest levels of coordination to counter cross-border trafficking attempts and protect their societies from the dangers of narcotics.
“Combating drugs is not solely a security mission,” the statement read, “but also a humanitarian, social, and moral responsibility that requires strengthening regional and international cooperation and unifying efforts to confront this transnational threat.”
The statement concluded by reiterating both countries’ determination to continue their joint fight against narcotics with “firm resolve and a shared commitment” to safeguard their nations, protect their people, and secure the future of coming generations from the devastating impact of drugs.
