Mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey are urging Hamas to give a positive response to US President Donald Trump's new proposal for ending the war on Gaza, according to two sources with knowledge of the talks speaking to Axios.

The pressure comes as Trump issued an ultimatum on Tuesday, giving Hamas "three to four days" to respond.

Trump's “Last Warning” to Hamas

"We have one signature that we need, and that signature will pay in hell if they don't sign. I hope they sign for their own good and create something really great,” Trump said from Quantico, Virginia.

American and ‘Israeli’ officials expect Hamas to give a generally positive response, though with some reservations.

Mediators Push for Acceptance

On Monday, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad presented the plan to Hamas leaders in Doha.

The mediators urged Hamas to accept the deal, with al-Thani advising them that this was the best agreement he could get. He also stressed his confidence in Trump's commitment to ending the war as a guarantee for Hamas, the report by Axios said.

The Hamas leadership told the mediators that it would study the proposal "in good faith." Al-Thani and Rashad met with Hamas leaders again on Tuesday, this time joined by Turkish intelligence director Ebrahim Kalin.

Key Principles and Sticking Points

The plan, which combines proposals from multiple countries, includes significant concessions from both sides. It calls for:

  • Captives and detainees: The release of all remaining captives in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian detainees.
  • Post-War Plan: A new governing mechanism in Gaza without Hamas and a process to fully disarm the group.
  • Withdrawal: A phased ‘Israeli’ withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The disarmament requirement is a major concession that Hamas has previously refused.

Furthermore, while the Qatari prime minister said the plan "needs development," Trump stated on Tuesday that there is not "much room" for further negotiation.
